Mr. Richard H. Roston was born and raised in Louisville Kentucky and received his Bachelor of Arts, With Distinction, from Indiana University in 1984. Mr. Roston built a successful career in another profession for ten years after college graduation, but never lost his desire to study Law. He received his law degree from The William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1997 and graduated in the top 18 percent of his class.
Mr. Roston spent the first five years of his career with a Newport News insurance defense firm. He joined a general practice firm for the next seven years, and then spent five years working for a high-volume plaintiff’s personal injury firm. Mr. Roston joined Mr. Johnny Joannou at Joannou & Associates, P.C., in October 2014. Upon Mr. Joannou’s untimely passing, Mr. Roston purchased the firm in December, 2016.
Mr. Roston has represented clients and tried cases in General District Court and jury trials in Circuit Court in every jurisdiction in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. He has represented clients in United States District Courts in Newport News and in Norfolk in matters that resolved before trial. He has twice appeared before the Supreme Court of Virginia to argue for a Petition for Writ, and has briefed and argued a case before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Roston focuses his practice on personal injury litigation and is a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Roston and his wife have a daughter who graduated from Virginia Tech and is currently working as a Mechanical Engineer, and a son currently attending Virginia Tech. When not working, Mr. Roston enjoys singing with two choirs, volunteering and participating with his religious community, and spending time with his family and friends.
