About Joannou & Associates

Joannou & Associates was founded by Johnny S. Joannou.

Johnny S. Joannou, a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, started practicing law in 1969. Through legal talent, hard work, and dedication, Mr. Joannou built a successful law practice and earned the respect of judges and other attorneys. Joannou & Associates was incorporated in 1992, and has had several partners and employed several attorneys over the years.

Mr. Roston joined the firm as an associate in 2014. Mr. Roston managed the firm and continued to provide effective representation to the firm’s clients during Mr. Joannou’s illness.

Sadly, Mr. Joannou passed away on May 6, 2016 from cancer.

Mr. Roston purchased Joannou & Associates at the end of 2016. Mr. Roston shares Mr. Joannou’s dedication to excellence in the practice of law and to getting the best possible results for his clients.

MR. RICHARD H. ROSTONPersonal Injury Attorney

Mr. Richard Roston was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and received his Bachelor of Arts, With Distinction, from Indiana University in 1984.

Mr. Roston built a successful career in another profession for ten years after college graduation, but never lost his desire to study law. He received his law degree from The William & Mary Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1997 and graduated in the top 18 percent of his class.

MR. W. SAMUEL COCODirector of Operations

Mr. W. Samuel Coco is the Director of Operations for Joannou & Associates. Mr. Coco served with the United States Armed Services for six years and was honorably discharged.

He began working with the Norfolk Police Department and then moved to the Suffolk Police Department where he worked until he took early retirement in 1992. While working as a police officer, Mr. Coco attended classes at Virginia Commonwealth University and was certified in accident investigation to include motorcycle, heavy trucks, and other commercial vehicles.
